Battle of Stirling Bridge was part of Scottish independence wars. This battle was a shattering defeat for the English: it showed that under certain circumstances infantry could be superior to cavalry. It was to be some time, though, before this lesson was fully absorbed.
Schiltrons did a great job in this massacre. Troops of William Wallace went on to lead a destructive raid into northern England after battle.
Hugh de Cressingham legend
According to legend, body of Hugh de Cressingham was flayed by the Scots as he had flayed Scotland, and William Wallace made a sword belt out of his skin.
